9/11 Memorial at Levitt Park

Mayor Suzy Seamans dedicated the 9/11 Memorial on September 10, 2002.

Through a donation to the Pepper Tree Foundation, the 9/11 Memorial was dedicated on September 10, 2002 to honor the memory of those who lost their lives and the bravery of those who responded. Two Sequoia trees were planted to commemorate the twin towers at the one year anniversary of 9/11. The 9/11 Memorial is located at Levitt Park on Silver Spur Road, west of Crenshaw Boulevard.

The History Behind the 9/11 Memorial at Levitt Park

9/11 Memorial at Levitt Park

On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four airliners in the eastern United States. They flew three of the planes into buildings: the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. They crashed the fourth plane in a field in rural Pennsylvania after passengers heroically rebelled. The horrific attacks killed nearly 3,000 people and injured thousands more.

To commemorate the one year anniversary of the tragic event, the City dedicated the 9/11 Memorial at Levitt Park.
