Council Member Pam Brown Schachter joined the Rolling Hills Estates City Council in 2022 after being active in the Palos Verdes Peninsula community for more than 40 years. She served most recently on the City’s Traffic and Safety Committee, on the Parks and Activities Commission for six years, and on the Equestrian Committee for over fifteen years.

In her professional life, Pam was a Professor of Sociology and Director of Advisement and Articulation at Marymount College for over 30 years and was previously recognized as an Educator of the Year by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club. After retiring from Marymount College, Pam has continued to work for the California Community Colleges on statewide articulation and transfer projects and serves as an educational consultant for transfer students throughout California.

On a community level, Pam has served as President and Horse Show Manager for the Las Amigas de las Lomas Charity Horse Show, Equestrian Trails Inc. horse shows, and as Chair of the Palos Verdes Chapter of the California Dressage Society. Pam has also served on the board of Los Hermanos Palos Verdes Charity Organization and remains involved with Peninsula and Palos Verdes High Schools’ “CollegeNight”.

Pam holds a B.A. from University of California, Santa Barbara, an M.A. from California State University, Long Beach, and a Ph.D. from University of California, Los Angeles. She and her husband, Robert, have been married for more than 45 years and raised a daughter, Christine, and son, Scott, who attended local schools. Pam’s passion remains horses, in part due to a lifetime of equestrian involvement and competition while securing her bronze and silver medals from the U.S. Dressage Federation, and in her spare time she enjoys time with her daughter in the South Bay and her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter on the East Coast.

Pam became a council member in 2022 after being active in the City of Rolling Hills Estates and Peninsula for the past 40 years. During this time, she has been involved in various aspects of local government and regional Palos Verdes Peninsula community matters. Pam has served, most recently, on the City’s Traffic and Safety Committee, and has also served on the Parks and Activities Commission for 6 years and the Equestrian Committee for over 15 years. Pam, along with her husband, Robert, have been very active in their Ranchview HOA.
