Council Member Britt Huff

Council Member Britt Huff was elected to the City Council in 2013, after serving on the Planning Commission for five years; including as Chair, and on the City’s Environmental Advisory Committee. She has served as Mayor in 2018 and 2023.  She has additionally served on the Board of Directors of the Montecillo HOA for six years, and as a Neighborhood Watch captain for 15 years. She served on the Peninsula Education Foundation Board of Directors for a number of years, co-chairing the Main Event, their annual fundraiser for Peninsula schools. She also served in many leadership positions in the PVPTA, including president of the Palos Verdes High School PTA, and President of the PV Council of PTAs for the 16 peninsula schools. During that time, she received PTA Honorary Service awards, and the Golden Oak Award, the California State PTA’s highest service award. She has also been active in a number of other peninsula-wide service organizations.

Council Member Huff represents our city on the Board of Directors of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) since 2013.  In July 2018, she was elected Board Chair by its 16 South Bay member cities.  She was also elected by the SBCCOG to represent the South Bay on the California Council of Governments (CALCOG) Board of Directors.   In addition, Council Member Huff chairs the newly formed SBCCOG Senior Working Group, which brings together representatives of the 16 member cities to cooperate in the development of programs and services for older adults in the South Bay. She has also served on committees for the California Contract Cities, the California League of Cities, the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce, and numerous RHE city committees, including Chairing the RHE Environmental Advisory Committee, and serving as Treasurer of the PV Transit Board.

In her professional life, Council Member Huff is Executive Director of the non-profit organization, Healthcare and Elder Law Programs (H.E.L.P.), which is a free education and counseling center for seniors confronting aging issues. In her role as a community advocate, she serves on the Board of Directors of the two newly-formed Village Projects developed in the South Bay; the Palos Verdes Peninsula Village, and the South Bay Village., which are part of a national Village movement designed to help seniors to stay in their own homes as they age, with the help of volunteers and neighbors. Her professional memberships include the PV Chamber of Commerce, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, and the South Bay Estate Planning Council.

Council Member Huff holds a B.A. from UCLA, a graduate certificate from the American University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in political science/systems management. Her previous professional experience includes: Capitol Hill Legislative Assistant; Foreign Service diplomat with the U.S. Dept. of State; District Office Deputy Director, U.S. Department of Commerce; Regional Manager for the U.S. Department of Energy; and non-profit consulting. She has also taught on the adjunct faculties of USC, Westmont College in Santa Barbara, and Marymount College in Palos Verdes. Council Member Huff has been married for over 35 years to Dr. Kenneth Huff, M.D., longtime Professor of Neurology at UCLA Medical School and Chair of Pediatric Neurology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Their daughter, Dr. Hanalise Huff, attended PV public schools, received her B.S. from Cal Berkeley, completed her M.D. and M.P.H., and recently started her residency in Harvard University's Pediatric Neurology program at Boston Children’s Hospital.  As a family they are active in their church, where Britt particularly enjoyed volunteering for 13 years as a mentor mom for the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) program. She has also served as an Elder and Deacon in the Presbyterian Church USA. She and her family have undertaken short-term medical missions in South America and Africa, most recently in Ghana and Kenya.
