The City of Rolling Hills Estates requires all residences and businesses with alarms to obtain a permit through City Hall, issued at no charge. Several years ago, the City Council adopted a false alarm ordinance to insure that corrective measures be taken to prevent future false alarms.

Anyone operating an alarm system without an alarm permit may be subject to a $100 fine. The City charges $50 for each false alarm that results in a Sheriff’s Department response.  In addition, anyone who fails to pay a false alarm fine within 3 weeks from the date of the notice will be assessed a $25 penalty for each outstanding fine.

Residents and business owners can avoid fines by checking to see that their alarm systems are working properly, and by advising family members or employees of the need to properly manage the alarm system.
